Rules & Awards of The MacNaughton-Howe Festival

All competitors are requested to read the rules carefully

  1. All competitions are open to everyone (except those for whom selling art and craft items are their main source of income). For the purpose of this exhibition, which is to further interest in the arts and crafts, in those who mainly follow a particular art or craft as a pastime or hobby
  2. All competitors are asked to submit their entries either on line or by printing the website entry form (click here to enter) or using the form inside the printed schedule (available in craft shops or by contacting the Festival Organisers)
  3. No competitor to make more than one entry in each class. Entries must be the competitors own work. All competitive entries must have been completed within the last two years and must be unworn or unused. Any competitors names on the entries must be covered.
  4. Exhibition fees.  Adults 80p for each entry. Children free to enter in the children's classes
  5. All competitors must firmly fix a sealed envelope , or folded sheet of paper, to the exhibit with their name and address inside. The number of the Class should be written on the outside in ink. Children must write their age on their entry. Children’s entries must be their own unaided work. Children’s prizes must be collected by the child in person, or nominated adult, at the Festival prize giving held 4pm on the Saturday of the Festival.
  6. The deadline for entries and fees is 6pm on the Thursday immediately prior to the Festival.
  7. Prize giving will begin at 4pm on the Saturday of the Festival and no item is to be removed until after the prize giving has finished (normally about 5pm)
  8. No arrival entered in previous MacNaughton Howe Festivals will be accepted
  9. Whilst all care will be taken with the exhibits, the committee will not be responsible for any loss or damage arising from any cause whatsoever, or for prizes or exhibits unclaimed at the conclusion of the exhibition.
  10. Judges will be appointed by the committee and the Judges decisions will be final. Entries not in accordance with the schedule will be disqualified. 
  11. Judging will be on the basis of Gold, Silver, Bronze and Highly Commended. Points will be given for neatness, finish and originality. All awards will be counted towards the MacNaughton-Howe Cups
  12. Artwork must display the medium used and craft work must display whether a kit has been used. 

Awards

  • Adults: MacNaughton-Howe Certificates for Gold, Silver, Bronze and Highly Commended
  • Children: Gold £2.00  Silver £1.00. Bronze 50p. Highly Commended.
  • Silver Challenge Cups for adults gaining the most marks in the Needlework, Craft, Art, Computer & Photography Sections.
  • Display Cup for non competitive and non profit making displays
  • Rene Howe Award for best Children's Entry
  • The Brenda Lawson Shield. The Chairman's Choice (any age) 

Non Competitive

  1. All schools are invited to stage an exhibit to illustrate their work in Art and Craft
  2. Local Organisations and individual adults are also invited to show their work
  3. All exhibitors to contact the Show Organisers by the end of August if a display table is required in order that space can be allocated. (limited space is available) 
  4. A display table fee of £15 is payable for each table for groups, clubs and individuals. Tables are to be paid for in advance at the time of booking confirmation
  5. Competitive entries in the current Festival may be sold, but not removed from display until the end of the Festival. If a competition item is available for sale, please inform the organisers when submitting your entry. A 15% sales commission payable to MacNaughton Howe applies.
